At Pacifica Local, two new locations in Sutton and Cardiff have recently begun that exciting journey with us, marking the fifth and sixth franchise locations to open this year.
Launching in August, the three new franchise partners join us with a variety of technical experience, a huge appetite for business ownership and crystal-clear ambitions for the future. In Sutton, Muhammad Unain and Muhammad Raheel are combining their engineering backgrounds to establish their business. Meanwhile, Rhys Pring is already on the road servicing customers in Cardiff, Caerphilly and the surrounding areas.
For Pacifica Local Sutton, our model is an opportunity to take skills developed throughout their engineering careers and put them behind a venture of their own.
Muhammad Unain brings experience from field service roles, while Muhammad Raheel works as a graduate electrical engineer after completing a master’s in electrical power engineering at the University of Greenwich.
“We’ve both spent our careers solving technical problems, but this is an opportunity to put those skills towards something that is ours,” said Muhammad Unain. “That was the attraction for us. We wanted more control over what we were building and where it could go, while still having a national business and experienced team behind us.”
That experience has been particularly valuable as the pair translate their existing technical skills into the more specialist world of domestic appliance repair. For Muhammad Raheel, the initial training has provided an important bridge between the two:
“We had a good starting point, but there was still a lot to learn. The training helped us understand how to apply what we already knew in a different environment and gave us a much clearer idea of what to expect when we’re out working with customers.
“It’s also shown us that you have to keep developing your knowledge. The support is there, but you need to be curious, get hands-on and make the most of the expert knowledge around you.”
Having lived in Sutton for the past three years, Muhammad Unain is familiar with the territory and sees plenty of potential to create a strong presence locally: “We know a strong business isn’t built overnight. The priority is getting established, meeting customers and earning a good reputation. From there, we’d like to develop relationships with property management companies and create a good mix of work.”
It is a market with plenty of headroom too. With around 24 million UK appliances estimated to sit outside manufacturer warranty, there is significant demand for trusted local specialists like our franchisees who can help customers repair appliances quickly.
Our Cardiff launch has moved quickly from preparation to active trading, with Rhys now on the road servicing customers across south Wales.
Based in Caerphilly, Rhys joined Pacifica Local with years of hands-on and customer-facing experience. Since launching in August, his priority has been getting out into his territory, completing repairs and making a positive impression with every visit.
“I’ve always enjoyed solving problems, but there’s another side to appliance repair that is just as important,” said Rhys. “You’re going into somebody’s home because something they rely on has stopped working, so how you look after that customer really matters.
“When it’s your own business, you feel that responsibility even more. Every job is a chance to earn someone’s trust, and I want Pacifica Local Cardiff to become a name people across the area know they can rely on.”
Our franchise support team have been valuable for Rhys as he begins to find his feet, “Having that expertise at the end of the phone has made a real difference - there’s always someone to turn to if I need a second opinion or help sourcing something. It means I can keep things moving and focus on doing the job properly.”
Rhys has already set his sights beyond the opening months. As demand increases, he wants to add further vans and extend the operation’s reach, with becoming the go-to repair specialist in Caerphilly his first major goal.
That growth ambition is exactly what our model is designed to support. Partners have access to established systems, centrally generated work, marketing, technical expertise and ongoing business development, giving them a platform to grow without having to build every part of the operation from scratch.
It has been a busy summer for Pacifica Local, with new territories coming on board, including Wembley and Staines, as our network continues to take shape just over a year since our franchise opportunity launched.
In Muhammad Unain, Muhammad Raheel and Rhys we have partners with the right mindset, customer focus and drive needed to make the most of their respective territories.
For us, welcoming new partners is about creating opportunities for ambitious people to take control of their careers, putting their existing strengths to good use and see where that journey can take them.
And that opportunity isn’t limited to experienced appliance engineers. Our training and support mean we can look for people with the right mindset, giving those from a wide range of career backgrounds the chance to turn their existing strengths into a business of their own.
